Behavioral Competency

Behavioral competency refers to the behavior qualities and character traits such as interpersonal skills, teamwork, problem solving leadership skills and technical knowledge that contribute to the development of an individual within an organization.

Behavioral competencies help you make better talent decisions based on the specific behaviors and soft skills that drive your organization forward. They also play an important role in recruitment, as they act as markers that can predict how successful a person will be at the position he/she is applying for. Employers should determine in advance what behavioral competencies fit the position and create interview questions to find out if the candidate possesses them.
