Affirmative Action Plan (AAP)

A written set of specific, results-oriented procedures to be followed. Intended to remedy the effects of past discrimination against or underutilization of women and minorities.

Affirmative action obligations promote good faith efforts to enable qualified minorities, women and people with disabilities to access jobs they are rightful to be put into. Written affirmation action plans are a tool used by management to create equal employment opportunities. In compliance with U.S. federal regulations, all contractors doing business with the federal government and with 50 or more employees are required to meet the demands of such programs.

In formulating these plans, they must be action-oriented, containing practical steps that seek to actively address the underemployment of these demographics. Through using internal reporting and auditing systems that measure the progress made by contractors in putting together a workforce that is indiscriminatory.
